The Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA), a public interest environmental law organisation which seeks to promote environmental justice, sustainable and equitable use of natural resources, democracy and good governance in the natural resources and environment sector has initiated a litigation case against ZimGOLD.

On the 5^th of October 2019, a nine-year-old boy reportedly suffered injuries on his left leg after stepping onto ZimGOLD’s dumpsite near the national sports stadium in Harare-Zimbabwe. He has been receiving medical support from a local doctor. The organisation has since written to the physician requesting the following,

1. A report on the extent of the client’s injuries including those which might not heal if any;
2. The medical bills incurred by the client to date and any other future medical expenses that may be necessary for his care and wellbeing;
3. Any other important information relating to the incident and the minor’s health.

To the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), the public interest law organisation is requesting the investigation report regarding ZimGOLD’s dumping site.

This information will assist ZELA’s litigation department in its investigations so as to ensure that the client’s rights are protected as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
