“How much money will I get if I Protect the Elephants? " A Legal and Reflective Analysis of the Community Conservancy Model in Zimbabwe's Southeast Lowveld

This topic was inspired by a question raised during a plenary discussion by a participant from Ward 25 in Bikita, Masvingo Province, Zimbabwe, who lives near the Save Valley Conservancy. The question arose during a focus group discussion on capacity needs assessment for wildlife committees in the SEL under the USAID Resilience ANCHORS Activity. It highlighted a common challenge: many communities living adjacent to conservation areas often struggle to see or realize the immediate benefits of wildlife conservation. This disconnect underscores the need for stronger engagement and tangible benefits that directly impact local livelihoods.
