AIEL Call for Research Grant Support
Environmental Law and Natural Resource Governance (ELNRG) Research Grant
Overview
The Africa Institute for Environmental Law (AIEL), a research arm of the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA) invites final year post graduate students undertaking research on environmental issues to apply for a research grant being offered by the Institute. The AIEL is dedicated to the promotion of young Pan African scholars in environmental management and natural resources governance. The institute recognizes that there are serious gaps in the funding of research and development in the field of environmental management and natural resource governance. To bridge this financing gap, the AIEL has established an Environmental Law and Natural Resource Governance Research Grant which will support three post graduate (1 male & 2 females) research students from any one of the Universities in Zimbabwe. The AIEL will give preference to research topics and proposals exploring the following themes
- Future of mining and Future of Work
- Impact of Covid 19 on natural resource governance
- Fresh water management and governance
- Climate change
- Just energy transition
- Environmental economics, diversity and natural capital accounting
Objectives of the Grant
The goal of this grant is to promote knowledge generation by young Pan African researchers in critical themes in environmental conservation and natural resource governance.
Research Grant Package
- The research grant of USD 1000 will cover field work research costs, honorarium for supervision and administration cost to the institution.
- Access to data collected either by ZELA and the AIEL on environmental law and natural resource governance
- Access to technical support from inhouse researchers within the AIEL
- Access to the ZELA and AIEL library
- Access to platforms to present and share insights from research
- Opportunity to publish a follow up journal paper in the African Journal for Environmental Law and Policy
- An opportunity to support AIEL in any of its research projects as a volunteer post Graduate Research Intern
Application procedure
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit the following documents
- A two paged Application – applicants should demonstrate why the topic is important and how the research knowledge will be used- The Applicant should have the following key sections Introduction and Context; statement of problem, justification of study, proposed methodology and how generated knowledge will be used in policy and law development.
